Benefits of a Strong Core

Bryant Billue, BS Exercise Science

  1. Healthy Back & Good Posture

Weak core muscles can lead to poor posture and lower back pain. Strengthening the core muscles can relieve back pain and prevent slouching. Good posture decreases the wear and tear on the spine and allows you to breathe deeply and helps you gain the full benefits of the exercises that you perform during a workout.

  1. Improved Performance at Work and Everyday Activities

Most daily activities such as bathing, dressing and even breathing involve the core muscles. Job tasks such as sitting at a desk, typing andlifting objects depend on the core muscles as well. Having a strong core helps the pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen work in harmony. This leads to better balance and stability which will help increase work and everyday task performance.

  1. Decrease the Risk of Injury

As you age, it can be harder to maintain stability. Just walking without losing balance or falling can become difficult as your balance and stability fade. Having a strong core improves your balance and builds overall stability. This decreases the chance of you injuring yourself and lowers the risk of acute and repetitive stress injuries from everyday task.
